Small utility trailer to tow

I have an open 4x6 utility trailer I sometimes tow. Backing it with the RV is a pain so I put a front receiver on the RV and I can now maneuver it easily. I put bike racks on the top and tongue of the trailer so I can carry 6 bikes if need be. Mine is 3000 lbs gross weight which is overkill for what I usually use it for.

Enclosed cargo trailers are nice to have. I definitely am getting one, once I make the jump to a new rig (am biding my time because I don't have much vacation time right now until next year.)

I'm also not sure on size. I'd like something big enough to toss some solar panels, maybe go with 6-7 feet at the widest so there is room for adding panels on the sides that can fold out.

One thing I would consider with a trailer -- two doors. The usual one that opens from the back (be it a ramp or lockable double doors), and a side door that has a RV handle lock, as well as some barrel locks on the inside. That way, no matter what, one can get out, but a would-be thief would have issues getting in even if they broke open the RV handle. It also allows the trailer to function as additional sleeping space in a pinch.

I'm sure they make nice trailers, but equipped with "...top quality brand Carlisle 175/80/R13 steel belted radial transport tires."? I've never read anything good about Carlisle tires on these forums.

Check out the polypropolene Pulmor trailers; they're lightweight, hold 1000 lbs of stuff and tow real easy. Poly body built on a steel frame.

There are some national or regional brands that sell at premium prices, but many small trailers are unbranded or local brands, locally manufactured and sold direct; the big trailer dealer is also manufacturer.

In rural areas, you will find trailers at hardware stores, big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot, farm supply stores like Tractor Supply and Atwoods (or whichever chain is operating in your region).

In urban areas, trailer sales locations aren't so obvious, but it is a category in the Yellow Pages. To haul a motorcycle, a motorcycle dealer can get you one made for that purpose, with bike racks and tie-downs built in, and motorcycle ramps. That tends to be more expensive than the cheapest utility trailers.

Also, be aware that a manufacturer may build, a dealer may sell, utility trailers in different construction grades, with different carrying capacities, so a lower price does not always mean a good deal.

I would look first at a manufacturing dealer, before checking out national brands. Here, that might be Trailers Plus in Tulsa. Where my sisters live in Michigan, it might be US27 trailers on the north side of Lansing. Metro Detroit area, I don't know, haven't been around there much lately, haven't spotted any big trailer dealers, or even farm supply stores, in the nearby suburbs.

Larger/longer utility trailers are actually easier to tow and back-up than narrow/short ones. Good luck.

DOUBT IT. 1 person in a camper van. Mainly for my bicycle and de-cluttering.
Just saw a small motorcycle cargo trailer that might be right for $375.

Once you find a really small trailer, and realize how easy it is, then you'll probably wish you'd have bought a bit bigger -- like 5x10, 6x10 ... I speak from experience. :)
