This place is an easy target for 1st-timer posts who ask baiting questions, and then sit back and watch the stampede. Must be quite entertaining for them.

Me too.

Snarkiness exists to counterbalance self-proclaimed know-it-alls, and to provide an occasional chuckle in an otherwise vanilla world.

Ages ago, I sort of befriended a young man on a forum, but he was remarkably rude to many of the members - riling them up from time to time. I asked him why he did that - and his reply was that "it was a game". He and his college buddies would assimilate themselves into a special-interest group; then see how fast they could "stampede the herd".

But I also think there's just whole new breed of people who type anything that runs through their heads, civil or not; simply because they are anonymous. An un-moderated forum can be a horrible place to visit (when the trolls take over - it's just chaos); and while some folks complain about the heavy moderation found here on RV.net - I, for one, truly appreciate it!

I had someone from a local collection agency call me and belittle me over the phone because I hadn't paid a bill that they had been sending to the wrong address. I went down and looked him up in person. He was pretty nice in person.

it's a side effect of technological development. People just say things that they'd normally wouldn't say in person. We'll have to learn to deal with it.

I did consider this option but have chosen the high road this time. They actually brought the personal attack here as well but the mod deleted it. Too bad, I was up for a battle of wits today and the other party was unarmed.

Exactly - and the ones I dislike the most are the snarky comments that tell a poster to Google-It, or 'did you ask the manufacturer?' etc. The reason most folks ask a question, on a forum like this, is to get personal answers from folks who may have experience of the issue you are going through.

If Google solved everything, we wouldn't need a forum at all! :S

The camping community contains a huge cross section of people, form all walks of life, parts of the country, backgrounds, etc.,etc.,etc..... Some are here to share ideas, while others are here to tell you that their way is the right way. Some are only here to run up their post count by participating in EVERY thread possible.

Certain topics bring out the passion among us. There's nothing like a good "Black Tank" thread, Dog Owner thread, or Gun Thread to get the juices flowing!

Spend a few minutes in the Mexico section and post why you may be afraid to travel in that country. The regulars will swoop down and pummel you relentlessly over such stupidity! ;-)

It's a FREE forum. You get what you pay for. Spend time getting to know the place and you'll soon see who you should listen to and who you want to simply ignore. There are plenty of both types!
