Solera Awnbrella question.

I think some people with awnings tied down at the place where I'm camping this weekend now have awnings that are detached and residing in the trees at the edge of a clearing, courtesy the high winds and twisters that paid a visit to my neck of the woods last Sunday night.

In a Texas summer, I'd tie down the awning. Come December to June... no way. I'd rather just roll up the awning, use an awning lock, and use an EZ-Up. That way, if something gets hauled off by the wind, I'm out a C-note for the pavilion tent, and not $1000+ for a new RV awning.

Not if you roll it up whenever the wind comes up enough to cause this. If it makes you happy to tie yours down so be it but I sure wouldn't tie mine down.

Tie downs are intended for use on manual awnings ... when the wind picks up enough to cause it to flap that's when I retract the awning, which with a power awning takes only a few seconds.

As do I and I don't see the point - if it's raining heavily all I do is tilt my Dometic power awning fully down and rainwater just pours off it. :B

We had awnbrella bows on a previous travel trailer with a long awning and they worked great. Never had to worry about heavy rains puddling on the awning.
