Sate of Utah has fixed the agreement and will have the Parks and Monuments open today and fully operating by tomorrow. It should be noted that this was a compromised agreement with the Department of Interior and the Governor of Utah. There is no guarantee that the state payments will be reimbursed, because the Secretary of the Interior can not obligate the federal government.
This sounds like great cooperation between a Republican Governor and a Democratically appointed federal official.
Reality is, departments and agencies can not spend money they are not authorized to spend. That is what the TP's have stopped. Only agencies with carryover authorization, or continuing funding can operate.
So, some of you need to get the facts straight and not blame anyone butt those who will not authorize money to be spent.
If you want to argue with this, take it to another forum, The folks in Southern Utah were bleeding over a million dollars a day because of the shut down... I am use your visit will be greatly appreciated.
Right, but looking at both side of the issue, the governor did it BECAUSE his state was getting killed without the revenue that parks generate, not because he wanted the parks available to the public.
I applaud his efforts - but let's make sure we understand the true reasoning behind all these cooperation. We own this land and are entitled to use it - and lots of us defended that right both here and in foreign lands. This closing of the parks and other offices is an insult to that effort.
