I've had that happen before. One neighbor down the row had the fuel filler door of his toad pried off and the gas tank siphoned. Another neighbor had his truck's gas tank punched and drained (requiring a tank drop and buying another one.)
I've found that some thieves will break into rigs, wait a couple weeks, then come back around for another heist because most people have already had their insurance company pay and things replaced.
Truck tailgates are very often stolen. I've been at the bank when people ahead were getting loans to pay for theirs that got ripped off. This is why I tell people to get some type of tailgate hinge lock, or at the minimum, a hose clamp screwed down and then a spot weld placed. The tailgate will still go up and down, it just won't come off. Especially the ones with the built in backup cameras are big money.
I am really glad I use a tailgate hinge lock. I've come back to my truck where the tailgate is down when it is normally up. I never lock the handle because all it means is that a thief will just wrench it open with a screwdriver.
