In the area my folks live in pick ups are targeted but not for breaking in. My dad went into a bank for a few minutes, came out and something was wrong when he started the truck. Got out to check and noticed drag marks coming from under the truck, he looked under and his Catalytic convertor was gone.
The banks security footage showed the perp heading towards the truck before he even parked and was under it with a battery operated saws all before dad got into the bank.
Its a fact that these are "hot" items. But the thieves must have to wear asbestos gloves to handle them when the vehicle has just been shut off; they operate at a very high temperature, and they retain that heat for quite a while.
