Well, not funny then, and I'm now really careful about triple checking my hitch. Was pulling a cargo trailer I'd converted to an RV and was coming down a really steep hill, hit the cattle guard (going slow) and the trailer jumped the hitch. All I heard was a grinding noise and it was so steep I was sure the trailer was going to rear-end my car, but it didn't. I had to drag it down the hill a ways to find a place to pull over. I was sure I'd ruined the jack and hitch, but a nice couple stopped and helped me jack it back up and put it back on my vehicle. No damage at all except a little abrasion on the end of the jack.
I drive that road a lot, and the marks where I dragged the trailer are still there in the pavement, nice deep grooves. I always wonder how I could be so lucky to not wreck everything and better yet, have someone come by and help me in a remote area.
