We carry not much more now than basic tools, tape, extra fuel filters, jumper cables and so on. However many years ago before the invention of cell phones we ventured into the back country of Alaska and the Yukon with almost every possible tool and repair part we could imagine that might be needed. For the old Ford 6.9 diesel we even carried a spare injection pump and injectors, extra u-joints, radiator repair tools, wheel brgs. gear oil, and two spare tires and so on..IMO. A good set of tools are is more important than repair parts. In a remote area of western NC. we managed to destroy a rear end ring gear and pinion,we had the tools to remove all the broken parts and rear drive shaft. We drove in 4 wheel high all the way home about 160 miles. On another trip we were able to pull the engine out of our old cj-5 jeep to make an emergency clutch repair with our tool supply and the help of a hand come-along and a nearby large tree limb.Tools never leave home without them.
