Spreading the love

I was tickled pink when my DH brought home a fabulous little 20-year-old popup camper last weekend. Although we own a new 5th wheel on a seasonal lot already, I can't believe how excited I am to get this thing stocked and on the road.

The next day, the camping bug hit our college kids bigtime. What's this? A vacation that won't break the bank? Independence from mom and dad?

For once they are happily helping dad get it ready to go, and are anxiously making summer plans already. Having a little home on wheels opens up a whole new world to them. We're thrilled to give them the opportunity to learn why camping is such an awesome activity. It warms my heart.
  • There's just something about those little campers; I think it's the kid in all of us who really wanted a playhouse and never got one. Our first RV was a 24 ft TT w/o slides and we had a ton of fun in it. It would fit in any space and was so cozy and comfy.
  • We're about to start our 2nd year of seasonal camping. Last year was such a welcome change from the old routine of heading to the storage lot, hooking up, driving, parking, leveling, unhooking. And then doing the whole thing in reverse 2 days later. I'm enjoying seasonal way more than I expected I would. Put out the awning, turn on the water and we're camping. We camped more nights last year than we had in the previous 5 years. With our schedules, it's so nice to have things already set up and ready to go. To keep things fresh, this year we also have a couple road trips planned (one hopefully down to Fort Wilderness at Walt Disney World after the seasonal site closes) so we're hoping to get the best of both worlds. But in the end, whether it's seasonal or hitting the road, fiver or popup or tent, the important thing is the time you spend with friends and family enjoying the fun, adventure and relaxation the comes from camping!
  • Great post. I like to hit the road, no seasonal lot for us 'yet'.

but we have a monster toyhauler and I actually was thinking of a 20 ft. small TT for fast short weekends, but I just can't justify owning 2 of these things :)
A TT we can get into ANY spot on short notice.
  • There was a time we had a little pop-up, my mom had a pop-up and my sister had a hybrid. We staged a little family reunion in the mountains at Thanksgiving two years in a row. Awesome, awesome, awesome~! I miss that little pop-up, all except for the "no potty" thing. I need my potty, so I always carried a "cat box" for emergencies. Nowadays the pop-up is too much work for us, but I'd go right back to it if we could manage it.
  • I picked up a cute little used popup - figured I'd use it for rustic camping with my kayaking group in places where bigger RV wouldn't fit. I made the HUGE "mistake" of loaning it to my son-in-law, who took HIS son camping in it. It never came home after that.... I kept getting love-bombs from the kids/grandkids about how much fun they were having with it - finally, my son-in-law just said "You can't have it back. How much do you want for it?" ROFL!!!

I sold it for exactly the price I bought it for. And now I have camping family to go with me. I might have to try that again ;-)
  • We also have a seasonal permanent RV on our own lot. We also have a B class that we travel in. The
permanent place makes a great staging point for us to see many new places in the areas around us.
Its a lifestyle that fits for us. Enjoy as a child My parents started off in a tent camper.
  • Triple ditto. It's great watching the next generation catch camping fever.
  • You just described why I have no interest in parking an RV on a seasonal lot. Wheels are meant for rolling.
