We are the proud owner of a new Freedom Express with wide spread axles. My old hybrid had normal axle spacing and I used Bal X-Chocks. Don't think they will fit the new trailer though. I know BAL has wider version of x-chocks that extend further but do they work just as well? Maybe I'll just go back the wedges. What do you guys use for chocking?

I use both wedge and the wider bal chocks. the Bal x chocks are not meant to be used as a stand alone chock anyway, says right on the paperwork that comes in the box. They are really designed to help with the rocking motion inside the trailer. I think there was a post on this a couple weeks ago if you are interested also

Yes, I use both a standard wedge style chock as well as the Bal X-Chocks on both axles.There are many posts on this forum on how to make your own wedge style chocks. Just do a quick search and it should come up.

We just bought a pair of One Chock XL wheel chocks for our spread axles. First time used and trailer was more stable than ever and weathered severe thunderstorms near OK/TX border with 80mph straight line winds. Did not move an inch (though it rocked the trailer a bit). Worth the money and they are quick to install (takes about ten minutes to adjust for first use) and remove in seconds. Will never use anything else again.

That's not the only reason for chocks. It keeps the tongue jack post from sliding off it's block when unhooking. Once I forgot to put down the chocks before I unhooked the trailer from my truck. I was on pretty near flat ground. Fortunately it didn't turn into an unmitigated disaster. The tongue jack pole didn't bend, and it was still high enough to put the truck under the coupler on the trailer.

The x-tended x-chocks work just as well as the original version. They used to be $90/ea. when I got mine. Now they go for $55.88+shipping.

I just use 4 yellow plastic ones, 2 on each side. I have looked at the extended X chocks but have not wanted to spend the $90 each.

For chocking, I use regular chocks and a Fastway XL

As others have mentioned, it does not help with trailer bounce but that's not why I have it.

I really don't think there is anything that will help my wheels as they are at least 18" apart. If I'm staying somewhere for more than a weekend, I jack up under the suspension between the wheels to try and limit some of the bounce. And I chock each wheel on both sides (8 plastic chocks). That in combination with the stabilizers does a decent job.

I just use a pair of those big heavy duty Black Rubber Chocks designed for use with tractor trailers. If they will hold them my TT is safe. The are cheap and easy and clearly the best in all terrains from concrete to gravel to mud.

It amazes me the stuff that can be sold. This is one of those cases where the tried and true has yet to be improved on.
