Steam cleaning outside of an RV

Here in California everyone is water rationing right now. The park we're at has an RV wash vendor, but he uses a steam device. I tried looking these up to see if they might hurt the paint job on our 10 year old, always babied Newmar, but get mixed messages.

Anyone here know whether these steam machines hurt your paint job?

Thank you

But of course, YOU are only doing what you want. You can't possibly be part of the problem. Washing your RV with water, steam (water) in the midst of a major water shortage? Why sure! Go right ahead! Your RV is VERY important in the grand scheme of things

In the interim, I'd strongly suggest that you investigate the many sites devoted to planning for having little to no water and act accordingly. Won't happen to you? Good luck with that.

And, I am FAR from a doom and gloomer. I am a realist.

No censoring will come from me; I'm in So Cal and know very well how real it is.

Never heard of steam being used on the exterior finish of a vehicle.

  • NO way I wold subject an RV to that. It may make quick work of cleaning but its going to cause leaks.
  • I worked at a beer distributor while in college and we "steam" washed the beer trucks and trailers. The washers made by Hotsy used a natural gas burner to preheat the water. We did not have a decal come off the trailers or trucks using the Hotsy.
  • I have never heard of any steam device like that. Are you sure it isn't just pressurized water?
  • I wouldn't do it, nothing like trying repair 15 paint and decals.
  • if you guys are hurting so much for water, I would forget the bath for the rv, not high on my list of things that need done.
  • Chances are he is using a pressure washer with a soft spray nozzle so the spray comes out looking like steam. In the RV Resort we stay in the RV detailers have to bring in their own water and power their equipment using generators. All of them use pressure washers.

That being said I have seen where the pressure washer removed paint on MHs. Usually off of painted trim pieces. Most of the time no problems and the RVs come out looking great.
