Could someone point me in the right direction for searching on 50 amp cord storage. I guess I'm not very search savy!Just a helpful hint in cold weather travel. When we left Delaware a week ago it was really cold and the cold followed us all the way to Georgia! Anyway, I suggested we carry the cord inside the truck so it would remain flexible. The underbelly does not get warm enough! (Plus the outlet is too high for bad shoulders, so we have to plug in together.) Having a warm cord made it so much easier. Our last stop was relatively warm so at that point it went back in the RV.

Good idea, I was wondering about cold weather cord storage while on the road.

Mine has always sat in a rubbermaid tote in the front storage bay. There was a discussion a few weeks ago about flexible power cords. There is such a thing as flexible wire. Not cheap, but at least an alternative.

Another thing that can really help with thick heavy cable is to get good at over/under coiling. That way you aren't trying to twist a cold cable when coiling it up.

Pugslyyy, could you explain under/over coiling?

I asked the same question a few months back.. I was told to use a 5 gallon bucket... I tried it and it does work... I cut a hole in the side-down near the bottom large enough to push the end out of it.. I then coiled it up while warm into the bucket... I keep the wire in the bucket and pull out what I need.. It is not as bad as handling the entire cord.. when placing it back into the bucket , juts use 2 hands and twist it ...

Best solution I ran into for handling that 50 Amp cord 'anaconda', especially in cold weather, is MorRyde's cord reel. I mounted it in the basement of our fiver. Surprisingly small footprint. Cost is around $130 from Amazon, but it's definitely been worth the expense for us.

That is what I do when it gets cold out,, Normally I coil it and store it in a bay, but when it's that cold it comes inside, I will coil it once it's warmed up and put in the bay (Since the odds are the next stop I'll not be using the 50)

(I have two power cords, one 30 one 50, I choose based on the site)

But for you storing inside may be best option, Else winterize by the "S" method (Drive south).

If you don't like the cheap stiff cord that came with your RV or what is on the market buy the length you want of 50AMP "S O " cord, It stays flexible in cold weather and then buy the good quality yellow ends that have the handle built in.

I wonder if that works, I'm going to try it out.

Another tip is to leave the end of the cord longer then the loops so that it doesn't get stuck through the loops which then makes a knot.

It's a way to coil cables without putting a twist in them.

He is doing an air hose, but it works for power cords, water hoses, etc.
