YES there can be a problem. Especially with ones that have been used and are not empty. Been there done that.
Those 2 lb canisters leak 'after' you have opened them. The needle inside does NOT always seat once you've put it on and taken it off.
So if you put a half used one in the bay there's a good chance they leak propane.
I had 2 half used propane canisters in my front bay. Sitting under the awning everyone kept smelling propane. Opened that bay and whew it was filled with propane. Both canisters where leaking propane.
Interestingly the Coleman ones tend to leak more than the generic ones. I know throw them out once they have been attached to my BBQ, whether they are empty or not before I hit the road. NO more storing half used propane bottles in my MH.
