My bad. The Post and the picture both indicated MAP....
Never used the stuff myself.
Sorry for the confusion, let me clarify.
I have 3 of these (MAP) torches which I use primarily for starting campfires and fires in my fireplace in the house. They are GREAT, don't need strikers any more, and are literally a small blow-torch, used for soldering copper pipes, etc.
However, when the bottle of MAP ran out. I used the 1 pound propane (Coleman camp stove style) for the "gas" supply. Although it does not blow as intense heat flame, it still blows a pretty powerful torch, enough for lighting campfires, or anything else.
So, I now am carrying a couple extras (again) in my camper to use for this very purpose.
(actually, it was my father-in-law that gave me the idea to use these as fire starters, some 25 years ago, and I've been using them ever since. I don't solder copper pipes, but I sure do start a lot of campfires.)
To get back to the OP's original concern, I've transported the 1 pound propane tanks in my camper for years, and never had a problem. I don't remove the torch top from them either. Just turn the gas valve off.)
