Millenicom is about 150 dollars for the equipment and startup and another 70 dollars a month for service. Maybe the OP is not interested in spending that much?
Out here in the far west 3G is far from dead. There are many places you are lucky to get 1G. While I agree it is fast getting replaced by 4G, there is simply no way in heck Verizon is going to be able to upgrade every tower for a few more years.
