Our Dalmatian gets borrowed a lot. He's goofy, friendly, loves kids and never met a dog he didn't like. He's never bared his teeth, and we've never heard him growl. He just walks away with kids (on his leash) and comes back when they're tired of playing. He will do many handshakes and high fives for the appropriate treats.
We, too, have "loaned" fire starters and fire wood. We had a young family next to us tent camping for the first time who did not bring a stove. They planned to cook everything over a fire with a hanging contraption and a grill on rocks. Forgot the wood, so we gave him some. He had matches, but no paper, starters or kindling. We gave him all of our starters. He bought more wood at the camp store. We finally offered to heat up their food on our stove. I hope they bought a camp stove after that!
