I think a LD wrecker would have been fine. The key comment was that he did not have enough winch line to run it out and stay on stable ground on the LD truck.
So they send the MD out which usually has a 100 foot spool on it compared to the 50-75 most LD wreckers might carry. And nowdays I dont see a lot of trucks setup with an additional 25' strap with a 10k working load to fill that gap needed between a LD with a lack of reach and an MD with a bigger spool of cable.
