Stuck on I20 EB 14 hours, still sitting.

I know people always get mad in the south when it snows and blame the hwy dept and each other for not dealing with it properly. No doubt some of that anger is deserved. But the other side of that is when it snows in the deep south it is the near freezing temp greasy stuff, especially treacherous for the unprepared and inexperienced. So far we have had 97" of snow here this winter. But even we do not like the "greasy" snow that falls with temps in the 20's. Give me the snow that falls when the temp is 0 or below anytime.

It sounds crazy I know, but the snow that falls when it is that cold is dry and not very slippery. Most of us carry basic survival gear during the winter, something people in the south are not used to. I feel sorry for the south this year. Good luck to all.

Ed, why is the governor an idiot?

For causing the bad weather? ...no.
For totally blowing the forecast? ... no.
For saying what he did about having people who can help? ... no, because ALDOT and the Division of Public Safety do have people who can help. In fact, in the larger cities they have road patrols for public assistance.

We're on our way to Florida, but we decided to hold up for two nights in southern VA just off I-81 until the storm passed. It was 2 deg F here this morning, but at least we're not on the road to SC as we would have been. Tomorrow does look much better!

Atlanta is in the same shape - basically locked down tight. Less than an inch of snow when they turned all the schools out in the metro area and businesses followed suit. Interstates, including 285, just stopped with thousands just sitting. Friend of mine in metro (originally from Baton Rouge) suggested that Kasim Reed, mayor, is a graduate of the Ray Nagil school of emergency preparedness. What a mess

Alabama's governor said yesterday for anyone stuck on the interstates to call 911. They have people that can help.

I hope 911 referred all of these calls to the governor's mansion number.

That's the problem. I'm in my car, luckily stopped for snacks and fuel before I headed home from work. Melted snow tastes good. Stay warm everyone.

Just don't eat any of the yellow snow it has a strange taste.

We heard the same thing in MI that "It's supposed to get better tomorrow and be into the 17's by the weekend." 2 weeks more before we break the freezing mark.

May be some gators or craw fish in stream next to road. Film it and sell the story to Associated Press.

Probably not going to happen...not cost-effective. We're used to dealing with hurricanes. Baton Rouge is shutdown. When roads and (elevated) bridges ice over, the roads are too bad for us. Police close the roads until they thaw. I feel sorry for the truck drivers. Saw a
sleet-covered car rear window that said, "Bring on the global warming." It's suppose to get better tomorrow and be in the 70s by the weekend.
