I only drove the police package Tahoe in "Alternate Police Vehicle Training" which we had to do every two years as long as we were issued one. I went three times. My issued vehicle was a Durango. The Tahoe drove very well and was great at high speeds as long as the back of it wasn't crammed full of stuff. One guy used his issued Tahoe that was full of his accident investigation junk and it tended to want to break loose in the rear end and go off roading. We were at an abandoned airport that was converted to a training school. We also had a regular Ford 4x4 Expedition out there that day. One of the fastest vehicles out there that day was a Ford diesel F250. Yea, go figure. In street conditions that sucker is hard to beat in a chase. It sticks to the road and has tons of torque. My Durango was the 2 wheel drive version with the V8. It actually did very well, much better than anyone thought it would. The Mopar V8 would burn the tires off of that thing. It tended to wash out a little on the front end but, it wasn't the top heavy sloth we thought it would be. In a drag race the Durango is a front runner. The slowest vehicle out there was a V6 Ford Explorer (Exploder). It wasn't horrible but, it couldn't catch anything else out on the track in the road course. The Tahoes were as good as anything out there including the Ford "Interceptor" police package cars. Just for driving I would definitely have a Tahoe. But, I don't want the lowered police package version. SUVs actually do quite well on a road course but, you have to be sure not to hit any "tripping devices" when youre hard in a curve. Hit a curb and you'll flip. As long as it's just pavement the front end will wash out way before the SUV will flip.
