Suggestions take truck for hook up repair battery connection

Kind of a long subject line, sorry. I'm not sure how to make it shorter.

My problem is that the power or connection from the truck to my RV doesn't charge the battery on the RV.

Everything else works; i.e. lights, turn signals, breaks etc. But, the battery isn't getting a charge. Really frustrating when I stop somewhere and no 12v power.

I have a 2008 Chevy Duramax and TT toy hauler. I just bought the TT last year and it worked fine hooked up to my Tundra.

I took it to an RV shop in Tucson and they said it is the wiring in the truck. When I got back to Houston, I took truck and TT to place where I bought TT. They said same thing. It is the wiring in the truck.

I went yesterday to a repair shop close by the house and they said it would be expensive to fix as it may take a long time to trouble shoot the wiring problem. I decided to see if there are options as these guys sounded unsure and made me doubt if they could efficiently do the work.

Any suggestions??? Thanks

  • Here is more info on where to check for the wire. Check your owners manual for the fuse location. I believe the 12v wire (once wired up and with the fuse installed) is only energized when the tow/haul button is on or when the running lights are on... the owners manual also has a brief statement on this too.
  • Do you have a test light? Easy to find a dead lead in the 7-pin and not difficult to repair.
  • Does the truck have a factory tow package? If so it may be just be a missing or blown fuse. It could also be a bad connection which would take time to trace down. If no factory package; it should not be hard to run a wire (fused) from the battery to the 7 pin connector.
  • I know the 2007 Silverado (NBS) I sold last year did not have the 12v charge wire hooked up at the under hood distribution box and it did not have the fuse in the slot....it came from the factory that way. Have you (or those shops) checked to see if that wire is connected and the fuse is in place?
