surge guard protectors

I hard wired a PI inside my class C. It cost about the same as a portable one and I don't have to worry about it being stolen. About $250.
While I was at it, I replaced the 30 amp cord which was in bad shape.
If you're a little handy and can understand directions, not that hard to do.

Progressive Industries EMS HW50C (the inline with remote display). Seems to have worked well so far (working on 2nd year with it) and it saved my butt on at least 1 occasion.

Bought the portable 50amp SurgeGuard about three years ago, paid nearly $400. In just under two years, it went belly up. The customer service folks at Surgeguard said the device is not repairable, and is a throwaway item. Pretty expensive throwaway item in my opinion. However, bought another SurgeGuard (slow learner, I guess), this one permanently installed, IIRC, about $250. Had it installed just prior to this trip which started July 21st. It has tripped once at two different campgrounds so far. Should have done some research before this purchase - would have gone with the device with the life-time guarantee.

IMHO those locks that lock it to the cord are a joke. will just cause both the SG and cord to be stolen or cord cut. I epoxied a padlock hasp on the back of mine to lock a chain to. they can steal it by cracking open the case if they want to get a worthless item.

That is why I went with the built in model. Also, it ALWAYS is protecting my rig.

that is why I kept my portable locked up in a basement compartment.

Sounds like a Progressive Industries is on want/need list. Like the idea of lifetime warranty. One year isn't.t very long unless your using it fulltime.

1 year isn't very long even if you are fulltiming :)And for all the folks worried about theft, I've been using a portable for the last 7 yrs. At first I had the same thoughts about losing it in the middle of the night. Then it just got to be too much trouble to get out the cable and lock. For the last few years, no lock, trouble.

I've got the Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW30 hardwired. No worries.
