SUV towing a car

This might be a strange question, but I never see any SUV's or trucks towing a car 4 wheels down. Just motorhomes or U-Hauls. I tow an car behind my MH, but what if I had a need to get the car somewhere and wanted to tow it behind my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Considering that it is within weight ratings, is there a reason you never see this? I have all the light hookups, hitch, tow bar, brake buddy, etc.

  • I have done it several times. I put my kayaks on the Jeep and my fishing buddy pulls the Jeep with his pickup to where we are going to take out. We get in the Jeep and go upstream to where we want to start--float and fish 1 to 3 days down to truck. Load kayaks in truck and go up and get Jeep. Works great.
  • I've done it. Pulled a Buick Regal (former toad) with Grand Cherokee (new toad). Just did it once to get them both home, then sold the Buick.
  • I used to do it all the time. Flat towed a Jeep CJ behind a truck, even flat towed a home brewed Corvair-powered dune buggy behind the Jeep a couple of times.

Don't have the Jeep anymore, or I would still be tugging it around from time to time to go wheelin.
  • I'd say go for it. If you rent a dolly the towed vehicle cannot assist in braking. Or maybe it could?
