I have searched the forums for this topic and cannot locate any information, so please excuse me if this has already been discussed. I am curious about swapping out empty propane tanks for full ones. If I have say Blue Rhino 25 pound tanks and there is no Blue Rhino tank dealer near by will the seller of another brand take my tanks in exchange for his brand? or will I have to buy His brand and then have 2 empty tanks to store along with the new full one? I use the small tanks on our propane BBQ.

Try and find a propane dealer, they will fill them, no brand turned down -- probably can have them filled @ most any full service campground also.

Isn't the blue rhino just a plastic overlay that can be cut off?Used to be that way

Way too expensive around here to swap tanks. I always find a gas station or some Costco's that fill tanks. Often RV parks have propane available. Propane prices vary widely but I can usually get a 20lb tank filled for $10-$15. Much better than the $20-$25 exchange price.Most exchange places including Blue Rhino will accept any tank. Doesn't matter the brand.

A long time ago Blue Rhino had a collar on their tanks that necessitated a fillup at a Blue Rhino dealer. No such thing now, they're all fillable, wherever you go! Just find a propane service and have your tanks filled up !!
