The sway bars I have are Husky friction sway bars. I have one on each side as suggested by the manufacturer for my size camper. My tongue weight was within range. About 11%. I have a tongue weight scale and use it before each trip. I am at the upper end of acceptable with payload but I don't exceed it and my truck is capable of towing 3,000 pounds more than I am so I'm within the limits. So is it speed up and apply trailer brakes or slow down and apply trailer brakes? it seems there are two answers in this thread???? I was taught to reduce speed by letting off on the gas and to apply the trailer brakes manually. That's what I did and I was able to get things under control.
Glad to hear everything worked out!
What do you have in the bed of the truck? Would it be possible to relocate those items to the trailer? Relocate those items between the axles and front of the trailer to increase tw and also gain a little payload room for the increased tw.
Were you on your way to or home when this happened? Anything different this time from other trips? Water in the fw, grey or black tanks- anything in them this time compared to others?
It sounds like you may on the edge of having the proper amount of tongue weight. We only have a few trips so far in a new(er) to us trailer, and I am at 12.6% tw, and with some wind gusts last w/e the trailer was wanting to sway a little. Next trip I plan on having water in the fw tank to increase tw. Also going to recheck my DC setup.
