So now you know you can get into trouble buying over there. Bringing it into the country I would suspect you better have some solid documentation proving you got it legally, and need to take it.

Same thing for a "Rolex" watch purchased in Mexico.

It will keep good time......for a while.

You'll never know where your supposed name brand meds *really* were manufactured......until they "don't do what they should do".

Except - it (really) wasn't.

Expensive lesson (not the price of the phony meds) learned.

The only way to find out for sure is to call US Customs and ask. By getting and following personal opinions you are running a high risk of going to jail in Mexico. Find out what their law is and follow it. I have worked and traveled all over the world, some countries will put you in prison, some countries will execute you for having what they consider illegal drugs. In their country, their laws count when you are in their country not our laws and they dont care what country you are from.

You are allowed to bring back a 'reasonable' amount of medication. 1000 pills will exceed that limit. 20 day supply can be considered reasonable, something in between is up to question. . . Good luck!Fred.

Late wife was on serious pain meds. No problems crossing either way, on either trip. Be aware though that many of the common pain meds used in the US are not avail in Mexico and, if they are, they are extremely difficult to find. For example we needed Fentenyl (sp?) patches in PV and Guadalajara. No pharmacy carried them in either city...finally got them at a hospital pharmacy.

Buckeye: I would take a copy of your files from your Dr. Mexican Docs are reluctant to prescribe these meds without such documentation. I know you said you'll bring your own, but you never know.

Bringing drugs into Mexico is like bringing sand to the desert. Now guns/ammo, that's something else all together.

Oh, I beg to differ. As long as you have a Rx, you can bring it back into the U.S. Thousands do so every year.

Yes. Crossing a border anywhere customs officials are allowed to look into anything, including your body. Most countries do not share U.S. legal protections relative to search and seizure, and even for the U.S. those do not apply at the border.

Your attitude is probably what is most important. On a crossing from Canada to the U.S., one of my college professors made a joke about drugs and earned himself a body cavity search.
