Tapeing RV Power Cord Extension Connections

When I use an extension cord on my RV power cord, I tape the gap between the socket and plug with electrical tape, to keep moisture out. Am I wasting time and tape? Is there a better way to protect the connection?

  • If it lets you sleep better at night go for it IMO.. :)

If you worry about the extra time/tape being used, don't do it.. ;)

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it or do it.. I used to do that for my homes Xmas decoration connections and found that it actually TRAPPED more moisture and corroded the connections MORE doing that... I just plug them in now and no more corrosion on the connections.. :)

    Good luck!

  • Depends on what kind of weather and how long it's going to be there.
  • Are you talking about moisture or water? It's of course always better to keep anything electrical out of water, especially if it's upstream of a GFI.
