Television interference ?

I have a nice flat screen TV mounted in my TT and some times it comes in perfect but sometimes when a truck or camper passes by I lose the reception for about 10 seconds then it comes back. Why is this ? Is there something I can do to the television or antenna to keep this from happening ? The TT has the factory antenna on it (not sure what kind )

Alas, the passing vehicle may be in violation of FCC regs (Part 15).. But there is nothing you can do about that.

The Batwing with Wingman (Pictured above) is the best RV antenna made.. There are better antennas but they are not made for RV use. Careful aiming of the antenna is the best you can do.

Some televisions are more resistant to TVI (Television interference) than others. But parking farther from the road is about the only thing you can do,, other than careful aiming.

If you have not added a Wingman (And have a Winegard Batwing) Do so.

you still need to get the antenna up in the air. the winegard batwing will crank-up about 3-4 feet above the RV roof. that's a start. being in a CG has its own issues. parked under a canopy of trees...your reception will suffer. the switch from analog to digital made tv reception in an RV worse. lots of reasons why and most of them you can't do anything about. make sure your amplifier is on and the antenna is up as high as it can get.

get the antenna higher up in the air. sounds like this might be a 'Jack' antenna mounted close to the roof. anything between your antenna and the transmitter will cause the type of interference you describe.
  • I was parked at a CG that had a truck stop adjacent to it. I had TV reception problems too.

A forum member told me why and how it DID have to do with something on the semi's. Sorry I can't find the post with the answer. Maybe they will post it here again for you.

This is a BATWING with the dipoles added...

This is the KING antenna which is becoming popular with the manufacturers now...

We have great luck using the OTA BATWING antenna picking up the NATL Digital OTA HDTV from the local towns. Sometimes becomes a bit tasking getting the OTA signals scanned into the TV but once they get logged in they are perfect high def TV signals or nothing at all...

If you have the LED lights try turning them off when this occurs. Also the roof fan motor may cause this at times..

Also these antennas shown above can pick the HDTV signals in both directions. They do it best if the antenna pointed at the transmitting station. Make sure you are pointing in the right direction. The BATWING SHOWN ABOVE is pointing to the right. The first JACK antenna is pointing to the right - the second picture is pointing to the top.

Are YOU moving at the time or standing still ?

If standing still, a better antenna probably would help.....and/or a "signal booster" in the antenna line.
  • Unfortunately no, there's not a whole lot you can do. Anything passing in front or near your antenna will cause a disturbance with over the air television programming. Unfortunately, the digital reception just doesn't work like the old VHF and UHF did. It's either "there" or its "not". I've noticed that even low-flying airplanes will cause the same problem.

The only thing that might help is to turn the antenna slightly, see if that helps.
