Testing for “off road” or “red dye” diesel?
Having engine work done on Dodge Cummins for possible fuel restriction or lack of fuel problem. The garage has had to do several “bucket” tests. Probably 15 up to 25 gallons of “red dye” diesel has been put through the engine. They have been using “red dye” diesel from a real big irrigation pump, that has its own engine on a trailer, that is falling apart.
I have never been checked or “dipped” for off road fuel before and never worried about it, that is until now that I have some red dye.
Currently in Yuma, AZ and worry about being checked before I get back home in WA and wonder how long time wise or miles before I no longer have worry about it.
Question:
How long does red dye stay in system, until no longer detectable?
Is there a way to “cover” myself just in case? Pic's of bucket tests or print out fuel receipts on credit card statement?
I know my odds are slim of getting checked but also think my state has penalty of $10.00 per every gallon of fuel capacity you have. Don't know about other states I have to go through (CA and OR)
Maybe I don't have to worry at all. Because when fixed, I'll be back on my own fuel tank. But also read somewhere the enforcement folks don't "dip" the tank anymore and they have something they shove up your exhaust pipe. Sort of like an emission test.
