IMHO each person has to determine what's best for them. Some like purchasing items just because the establishment says it's the thing to have. Others, like myself, make my choices based on my individual preference and don't really care if it's what everybody else is doing. I tend to ignore the marketing strategies for the most part. I get what OP is saying and I agree with 4X4Dodger's post in principle. People in general will defend the products they decide to buy even if they know they got duped by less than honest advertising.
