Little or nothing on your post is much of a scam. Most of it is low buck stuff which may or may not have significant advantage (such as toilet paper) but is not going to change anyone's finances for the worse-given they have the RV (the money pit).
Comparing a Honda inverter generator vs. a $500 Champion is apples-oranges comparison. These have different levels of reliability and function. They are only somewhat overlapping products. I would certainly trust mission critical power needs to the Honda first. But some people don't need that. Frankly I think there should be a generator class above the current Honda..something with fuel injection, auto altitude compensation, and cat converter. Something I'd pay for..not a scam for me.
If you want to see true scam look no further than high end audio. Thousands of dollars for speaker cable for instance. And a lot more!
Well I guess my idea of a "scam" is something that is marketed through fear or sex (which most marketing is) and for which there is no real need. In other words the marketing is CREATING the need such as in the Toilet paper or the sway bars.
As for the generators being apples and oranges this is just plainly not true on it's face.
The sole purpose of both types, the Honda and the Champion is to produce Electricity, taking the energy out of gasoline or propane to produce it. What comes out the other end of my Champion will power everything in your unit just like your Honda.
Now there are differences of course. But my contention is that those differences are not worth two whole Champion Generators. As for value; the Honda is overpriced in the US. Buying something that is overpriced because you PERCEIVE it is better, vs any real world testing, does not get you value. It gets you status.
