You overlooked that both Torque and HP are dependent (For any given engine) on the RPM. as speed increases there is a point at which TORQUE peaks, you want this to be low so you can come "off the line" when the light turns green.
Then there is a point at which HP peaks, Torque may be a bit lower at this point but torque * RPM peaks.. This, of course, muddies the waters some.
I know one engine that has several HP ratings, all at different RPM's. but the peak torque never changes
I know of two engines, identical peak torque but one maker claims more HP (Also at a higher RPM) (Also peak torque is at a higher RPM).
I have the lower RPM engine and am vary happy with it.
