pnichols you hit on something I have known for years, it's all about the gears and I will also add tire size. You can't gear a gas motor like a diesel you have to gear it to its power band that is always at a higher rpm. If you are looking for a gas truck off the lot good luck because properly geared ones are far and few between. When I ordered my present truck the salesman tried to talk me out of 4.30 gears but I new better. I will also add that the new line of gas motors (I only have first hand knowledge of Ford) are way different when it comes to way they adjust for the altitude.
