Did you include the cost of that F150 which cost 2 - 3 times the cost of a Ford Edge, or the additional cost of gas, insurance (including insurance on the RV), campground fees, maintenance on the RV, storage fees; the posts and pans, and bedding and camping chairs and all the stuff you bought to stock the RV; the firewood, the outdoor grill; and I could go on and on and on. The point being, if you think RV'ing is cheaper, you're kidding yourself. So be it.
The reason for RV'ing is not because its cheaper, its becaue you want that kind of lifestyle on vacation; because you can't roast marshmallows in the lobby of Best Western.
Actually, I did add in all that stuff! Except for the f-150. That was needed before, although I did make sure it was well equipped, in case. If I had been specifically shopping for RV capable at the time, it would have been a 250 or 350.
Just pointing out that it can be cheaper - I couldn't hazard how much more it would cost to go from Minn. to Colorado/Zion/Bryce/Moab for a month without the RV and without using campgrounds.
But yes, your note about the lifestyle was right on - that was not something we wanted to give up.
