The right fuels to use. Don't be foolish

Everybody really needs to check your gas mileage on the cheaper gases like Walmart, Sheetz, Giant foods, etc. I think that if you do this you will see that the 2 or 3 cent savings in cost is not worth it. At your name brand fuels (Sunoco, Exxon, Mobile, Gulf etc) the better gases put the proper additives in the gas that is better for your fuel mileage and your vehicles engine. I've tried it and it works. Better fuel for the same or sometimes better mileage.
  • I was under the assumption that walmart buys their gas from the same distributors that Shell buys their gas from. All the Station names are just different purchasers of basicly the same gas and probably from what gas distributor is the cheapest when placing the tanker orders.

Either way, I have never noticed enough difference in mileage from one to another. From articles I've read, even using premium vs regular gas did not increase mileage, it just lessen's the chance of detonation for higher compression engines.

I'm curious though what others are experiencing on this theory.
  • Interesting, since it pretty much all comes from the same regional refineries, wholesalers and same tanks.

But, if it works for you than that's all that counts.
  • 2 or 3 cents is not worth it to have to deal with the crowds. For some, that's a big deal.
  • Worst mileage I ever got was when using Mobile or Exxon gasoline

My best/most consistent mileage was when using Valero and it was always the lowest price.
