The smell of a dead mouse..

Sorry to inform you, the smell will never go away. We had a mouse get in the house and evidently it died inside one of our walls in a bathroom area. For over 4 yeas we had this hideous dead mouse/urine smell in that bathroom. Finally, we decided to remodel and expand the bathroom into another room and the entire 2 rooms were completely gutted. Guess what we found? Yep, the body, and WOW did it smell once the wall was opened up. Got it all cleaned out, bleached the "snot" out of the studs, and eventually sealed up the walls with new dry-wall and insulation. No more smells sense. (FYI...I also sealed those walls so tight, not even air can get into them now ... let alone a mouse!) Smell gone.

I can't help with your smell, but I can suggest how to prevent it from happening again. Keep a mousetrap loaded with peanut butter at all times near any opening where they can get in.

Had a mouse die in our garage (I poisoned it) and it stank. I looked everywhere but couldn't find it. Eventually the mouse desicated enough that it no longer smelled.
Found it several years later when I moved a work bench.


Short of taking the underbelly down all you can do is wait - but it will stop smelling eventually.
Have to wonder though, if it smells that strong, maybe it's bigger than a mouse.

In my area a mouse will dry up and the smell goes away - not sure that applies to hot/humid environment. Also - mice tend to build nest and those nest tend to stink forever. If you enjoy the smell of coffee you might consider using coffee grounds - they are famous for absorbing various odors.

It's happened in my trailer twice. I've never found the culprit either time, and there was never any evidence of them actually getting inside. After about 6 weeks the smell has gone away. I did purchase a de-ionizer to try next time.

Febreze helps. I think a lot of this depends on the person's sense of smell. Mine is not too good.

Find it and get rid of it. The odors and germs it releases can be toxic. We had a mouse infestation at our stick and brick right before we put it on the market. Had it all under control UNTIL one crawled up inside the back of the NEW fridge and we couldn't reach it. Had to scrap it and buy a new one.

Why in the world would you want to entice them in with bait? Trap or no trap, bad idea! Why not take care of the opening, obviously you have identified the opening......stuff it with brass/steel wool and spray foam it!

put a cat in the rv ,just for finding where that dead mouse is, O zone is about the only way to kill the smell.

The opening is the power cord. Not real practical to steel wool or foam that. Besides, mice can get in places you can't imagine and you definitely don't want to poison them and then they crawl off somewhere in your wall to die.
