What's the purpose of internet if you can't use it for streaming, videos and movies? I've never been to a business with wifi that says "email only".
Our trip in the summer of 2014 through the western U.S. and Canada showed how basic public internet is and how far behind in technology the two countries lag.
Mexico isn't the best at everything, but wifi is everywhere and for cheap. Our landline, 100 minutes of free international dialing, high speed internet plus basic Dish cable costs 571 pesos ($33 U.S.). All public schools offer public access. You can sit out front and get wifi albeit with high security. In most city plazas there is open wifi. Small businesses offer "cafe internet", where you get an hour of wifi for a dollar an hour. The places are packed.
In the U.S. we could never find wifi unless we went to a McDonalds or a Starbucks and Kinkos/FedEx is $29 per hour (yes, that's U.S. dollars). The only true wifi friendly place were Home Depots where they encouraged us to boondock and browse the store.
RV park wifi is pathetic. We have yet to find a park where it was truly usable like at your home wifi spot.
We boondock and this is the biggest reason why. We don't need 100 amp electric, sewage and pool. Like most people, a safe, quiet place to stay with good wifi. We're not looking to light up the night skies.
