Sleeping tight in our Fifth Wheel (Big Tiny) when we are startled out of a sound sleep by a horrendous, metallic BANG. One of those instant awake situations where DH and I dispense with "did you hear that?" and proceed directly to "WTH???" Apparently, after many years of happy partnership our awning and camper decided to part ways. Fortunately, we already had a new awning on order. Nonetheless, standing on a cooler trying to reattach the frame is not how I like to greet the sunrise. :)

I guess that's God's way of telling you that you waited just a hair too long to replace the awning. I trust you got your money's worth out of the old one. Sorry for the interrupted sleep, but glad no one was killed -- a possibility a little later in the day, when you out there standing in exactly the wrong place when it came down.

DH said the same thing. Its a 21' trailer so small awning but that doesnt mean It wouldnt pack a punch. There wasnt a wind issue but we are guessing the rain pooled rather than running off the angle. Had we been awake and outdoors we likely would have seen it happening. Meanwhile our 16 yo slept through the whole thing! ETA the next day our friends had a tree limb crash down atop his 2011 TT. His daughter said it shook the trailer. She thought someone had hit them. He had the same reaction. Better the limb bounce off the trailer than one of the many people on the ground. When nature attacks!

A BIG pine cone will keep you guessing for awhile.

Stayin in Naples Florida a few years ago we were inside the trailer and heard a very loud boom. Went outside to look and it was the space shuttle on re-entry. Pretty cool.
