Thinking about a new generator

I’ve got a big contractor style generator that I’m thinking about replacing with something smaller and quiet. I only need to use it a couple of times during deer season so I won’t need it to run an AC unit. Just lights, tv and heater blower. I’m thinking of getting one of the 2000 watt champion generators and using a 30 amp to 15 adaptor. Will I mess anything up by using the adaptor? My other option is to add a parallel kit that has the 30 amp rv outlet. Can I run a parallel kit without having it hooked to 2 generators just to get access to a 30 amp plug?

If you have a Costco close by you may want to check on a Yamaha 2000. They were on sale for $450 with a parallel kit.

Yamaha engine yes. The rest is made by someone else.

My local Costco has that genny. It's not a Yamaha genny but is advertised with a Yamaha engine. It's basically a clone of the Yamaha 2000. Looks like it would be fine.
How about parts availability or service ?

That's the big unknown. That's why I'd go with Champion if not Honda or Yamaha
  • I really like my Champion 3100 inverter. Not a single problem in 3 years, easy to start, reasonably quiet, plenty of power to run ac, no RV adapter or parallel kit needed, usually goes for around $650.
