Thousand Trails Membership

Looking for guidance ...

We recently sold our 5th Wheel and without an RV for the first time in 20 years ... We are not sure if/when we will get a new one and I contacted TT regarding our membership we've had since 1997. They advised I do not have a suspension clause and my only options are to sell/transfer or cancel. We have had a lot of enjoyment out of TT over the years and had hoped to hang on to it but appears we cannot. (I guess we could pay the annual dues and just not use it but that does not seem practical)

Are there any recommendations on sites to sell the membership? I used RVTrader when we sold the RV but haven't looked into selling a "membership"

Thanks for your advise ...
  • READ YOUR CONTRACT!!! They are the land of "NO". I have had to tell them to read MY contract so many times after them saying NO that it makes me sick.
  • If you're a member of Escapees, why not list it on their For Sale site...won't cost you a dime?
  • Why not keep the TT membership and use their cabins? Every TT campground we went to had cabins for rent for TT members.
  • Craigslist is good. We bought our T/T membership from a seller in Arizona early this year. If someone wants a membership, they will find your listing. You can sell your membership to anyone, anywhere. There is a bit of a process to go through and you can find the info. on the internet. Look into prices others are asking for their membership - everything sells for the right price so don't try and overprice it.

One thing you'll need to do is give prospective buyers your membership no. so they can discuss all the benefits and features of your particular contract with head office. We looked into one membership that was being sold by one of the elderly owner's children and it turned out they had a quite large balance owing to TT. T/T membership contract benefits and details can vary quite a bit and it would be good to list specifics in the ad. We had one seller get really PO'd when we asked for the no. and they refused! Some older memberships and/or details are no longer available and can be a desirable selling point. If a factor, you might want to try and sell it before the annual dues are due.

We sold our old membership in another CG network on CL. We tried that RV resale website and didn't get a single enquiry despite having quite a low asking price compared to others. We tried selling it over the winter period and there was only one or two inquiries and no offers. It wasn't until the beginning of the new season that we started to get a lot of bites and when we finally sold it, we had a lot of people asking about it and could have sold it several times over. Don't get worried if nobody contacts you over the winter.

If you ever decide you want a T/T membership again, you can always buy a pre-owned one for a decent price and won't be stuck with paying thousands of $$.
