Ticks and Chiggers

There is a post about chiggers and ticks.

As one who goes hiking while camping I have yet to encounter one as I feel I have been lucky. I did find some interesting material about this thought I would post this as a public service

    This is what the military does with a standard kit that goes into solution and then the soldiers dip their clothes and let them dry.

    Best results from using permethrin to treat clothing and then using either DEET or picaridin on your exposed skin.

    Cheap to buy the permethrin in a 13% or 36% solution, dilute with water and either dunk clothes or apply with a garden pump sprayer. Costs us about 5 cents per item of clothing treated and it lasts for 6 or more washings (depends on the concentration and we use a very dilute one of 1 oz per 9 cups of water.
