Your mention of "annual" oil change brought up a concern I have. I replaced my 2010 Ram CTD with a 2018 Ram CTD. The oil change interval for the new synthetic oil was increased from 7500 to 15,000 miles. Unfortunately they also added a second fuel filter which is supposed to be replaced at the same interval. I have yet to have the first maintenance but am expecting a huge bill for the oil and filter changes.
The specs also call for an oil change every 6 months regardless of mileage. Ouch. I often do not use the truck for many months except to keep it charged up. Does oil rapidly deteriorate just sitting in a seldom used truck?
Doesn't matter if it deteriorates or not. If you don't do it, your warranty is voided. I just did the 15K oil change and fuel filter service. The dealer quoted me $170.00 for the fuel service. I bought the filters myself on line, so they only charged me $50.00 to install. From what I understand, it's fairly easy to do yourself; I just can't personally do it. I also had a coupon from the dealer for $59.99 for the oil change, but I paid a little more cause I run 5/30 Valvoline full synthetic, and the coupon only paid for dealer dino oil, Mopar I believe. My truck is a 2014, so that tells you how little we drive it. But I'm also old school and change my oil every 3-4K miles starting from day one. I know a lot of people will say that's a waste of money, but it's not for me.
