tiny house

It definitely IS a fad, but there are a few differences between them and an RV. Tiny houses are more like FEMA trailers in that they have no holding tanks or fresh water tank and need to be hooked up to water & sewer. They are built much better (usually) and heavier than an RV though, and are meant to be lived in permanently. (The RV industry gets by with a lot of **** as they don't intentionally build units to be lived in permanently.) Other than that, the comments about storage space & cost are right on.

It's just a fad nothing more.

It's a gimmick to get on TV... nothing special

It is a fad where people think they're going to sell their home and all other 'excessive' possessions and simplify things by living in a shoe box. Some might save money by living in this manner but my guess is most will spend the same, if not more, once the complexities of cramped living set in.

I've watched the shows where folks are looking for tiny houses. It's rare that they look at RVs there have been a few. The comments you hear when they look at an RV along with the tiny houses....the RVs look like RVs and the tiny houses look more like houses/cabins. Other than that I agree it's a fad thing... One couple chose the RV they looked at mostly because it was cheaper and they could tow it with their existing SUV. It was a Casita fiberglas TT.

Both my wife and I feel if more of them looked at a 5th wheel along with the tiny houses more would choose a 5th wheel. Especially those who plan to move it often.

Yea, you probably are. But not very much!

Tiny House Nation has been around a few years now. Some things just don't make a lot of sense. Seems every generation has to somehow try to re-invent something in a new way.

And oh! Never throw a man's tie away. In 10 years it will be back in style. But every 10 years, everyone thinks that style is now the greatest invention!

Consider houses? use to be everyone wanted space. So they made big houses with big rooms. Next generation came along and took those houses and turned those rooms into 3 separate rooms. Next generation came along and took those 3 rooms and turned them into 3 apartments!

Finally, the property get's run down completely by the next generation, where the current generation buys up the old property and guts everything out, and turns everything back into big open space rooms again!

Tiny Houses will someday be a dead fad. But the RV will live on!

I never figured out what they do with the trailer mounted tiny house. It's not discussed in the few I watched

It's like the footwear situation: there are ordinary shoes, there are the latest trendy shoes, there are shoes that promise you something (athletic ability, protection, attractiveness), etc. You get choices.

They sure are a lot heavier. I've been reading about how the park model type RV's or tiny houses are somehow able to fit within a loophole on some community zoning requirements. I have also heard where a park model was able to be placed within a flood plain whereas a MH would not.

What are you missing???
