Tioga George Calls It Quits

I saw a posting today from Tioga George that he is calling it quits.

I respect anyone's rights to quit, retire, whatever. I have followed George on daily basis for close to 10 years.

However I am worried about him. Lately he's flipped from the original TiogaGeorge (which was fantastic) to his ChallengeTruth Blog, to his latest, and apparently last, TiogaGeorge2.

George was a great guy to follow and IMHO he blazed the trail and led the way for a lot of people to get into fulltiming that didn't think they could do it.

I'm just worried that over the last few years George is losing it. His followers know about his family struggles the last couple of years, which are awful and I wouldn't want to go through or see anyone else go through, but it seems like lately he's lost it. Bless his heart.

George, I hope you find peace and happiness. You've been through a lot. Best wishes to you.

Having said that, George, please get some help.

  • He created a successful blog. Unique premise and found interesting places. He attracted 7 million views over the years. The free camping aspect created a bit of anticipation and suspense. It was great to sneak a peek at his page at work to escape the grind.

I reviewed a few of his posts from the mid 2000s. Good work, positive, unique viewpoint. Everything runs it's course. I hope George checks in on other blog comments, or on this forum once in a while.

I like the offbeat blogs with a unique story. rvsueandcrew comes to mind now.
  • I agree with the above sentiments after being a faithful follower of George's blog for many years. One of the perils of blogging is that your life is under constant public scrutiny. This is mitigated somewhat by the affection and interest of thousands of followers. I would never blog but I am grateful to those who put it all out there for us to enjoy, be inspired by and, yes, to criticize. Thanks for the great adventures, George! God bless.
  • I stopped reading him a month or two ago when he stopped his traveling blog and started his commentary blog. I was interested in his travels with a little commentary thrown in. I am NOT interested in his commentary.

I wish him the best but he seemed to have gone downhill stability/emotionally wise after the death of his son. I hope his family and friends step up and help him out.
  • How old is he now?

I read his blogs 'years' ago when he was boondocking and showing everyone just 'how' one could do it successfully. And he looked pretty old then.

I just read the blogs from the OP's link and it isn't anything.
  • When it comes time to retire then one must do what one must do... I think regardless of what he thinks he is bipolar and needs meds and therapy......

  • I followed him for several years; quit a year or so ago. I just read 10 or so posts backward. Sounds like he is just quitting blogging.
