Tire Blowout Damage

When I bought my old Starcraft, the driver's side wheel well was broken across the top (excellent for checking tread wear but hard on the interior when towing on wet road). I rebuilt it by framing a new wheel well and cladding it with 303 steel plate, the same stuff used for military vehicles and garbage truck compactors. Just let that China bomb try it on the M1 Abrams wheel well, lol.

It is common for motorhome mfgr's to run the main wiring bundle through the wheel well. All very vulnerable to a blowout and a bear to sort out.

That's one of those things I sort of worry about too. I think the manufacturers could do better by routing the pipes a little further away from the hazard myself....

Used marine plywood and covered it with spray-on undercoating when it happened to me. Seems to be holding up fine.

I bought some 1/8" x 1' x 8' diamond plate and slapped it up in the wheel wells.

When this happened to me I took a different approach. I contacted the manufacture and told them what had happen. I asked for some scrap under seal material. They sent it.

Then I laid some thin wood panel material 2 inches wide up inside the current under seal and then ran in some self tapping screws through the current under seal. Then installed the new under seal by also using self tapping screws through the material into the wood.

I finished up with using enternabond tape on the crack. Never had a leak. Neither did the new under seal ever fall off.

X2 on the diamond plate, providing you have the tools and skill to bend it if necessary, if not have a good mechanic shop do it for you. If it is just tore up on the flat area you should have no issues putting it on yourself.
