*ALL* wheels sold for public roads are required by law. Steel, aluminum, etc (yeah
assume the new carbon fiber for a few exoctics also have to meet this requirement)
DOT section 571.120
There is much, much more to it than just PSI. Even on that, out of context to
say XYZ PSI is bad/good for any type of tire. Makes no matter passenger class or
light truck class tires
Some LT floatation tires (true LT class, not passenger car class) have
a max sidewall listed 35PSI. Does that mean all LT tires should be
aired to a max of 35 PSI...or conversely...should they then be aired
up to 80 PSI that so many recommend for all 'LT' class tires?
All out of context without the rest of the specifications. One size
does NOT fit all...even socks.
The application matters and dictates
The tire size matters and dictates. On that, the ply rating and/or the load rating too
Even the ambient terrain matters
Like I run 120 PSI on a set of Michelin road tires and should I then
tell everyone to likewise?
Some times air them down a bit for comfort (a rarity for me, but do
it once in a while). Down to 110 PSI
Here they are as an example of how out of context this can get:
