I usually get my tires thru Discount tires direct and mount myself. However My son rented a 30 ft trailer memorial day a couple years ago. It had the tow master china bombs on it.
Bought the insurance thru the rental company which carried a $1K deductible. Well you guessed it tire failed and did considerable damage to the trailer. Rental company pulled the $1K same day as trailer return. They advised they bought 60 sets of tires a year before all from Discount and all tow masters.
We pointed out it was faulty equipment and not our negligence that caused the damage. Son is a master tech and had worked at a shop next door to the Discount in Anthem AZ. Right off I17. He did all their alignments after new tire installs. Gave the discount a call. Turns out they stopped carrying Tow masters the year before due to failures. He mentioned he had 13 tow masters that had failed that weekend.
OK I'll get to the point. We went to the discount tire that had supplied the rental companies tires with the trailer. Manager advised the warranty was with the manufacturer and not discount and they were not involved.
Now he could have gone up the ladder a bit and Discount would have been done for the cost of putting a set of replacement tires on the trailer and the $1000 deductible as offered by the rental company.
Manager insisted Discount was in no way involved and it was between the rental Co and Greenball the tire manufacturer.
Well rental co. contacted their lawyer who advised they return our $1K sued Discount. Cheaper to pay the $500 in damage to the trailer and a couple hundred for tires than to go to court.
Poor management decision at the store level which I assume could happen at any chain tire store.
