For about 2 months we have been searching all the different boards on information about tires. We have a 2011 F350 dually & 2010 42' XLR tri axle Toy Hauler. We have blown 3 tires on the XLR since it came from the dealer new. All the blow outs were on the last axle. The last blow out took out a panel on the XLR which we are still waiting for it to come in.When the research started on the new tires for both the truck and trailer every tire dealer had their opinion about which tire was the “best”. Also on the boards everyone had an opinion about what has worked for them. During the research, we were taking the tire size off of the tires that where on the XLR. Finally something made my husband look at the ID plate on the XLR. Guess what! The wrong size tires were on the XLR. They were 6 ply 80’s on it and it was supposed to have 85’s. The tires were either switched at the dealer or they came from the factory that way.After much discussion we bought Michelin’s for both the truck and the XLR. We put the XPS Ribs ST 235/85/R on the XLR and LTX M/S 2 LT 245 on the truck. We also had the truck aligned after we had the new tires put on. We had the dealer also put in liquid balance and beads in the tires for balancing. Over kill, probably so!We are leaving in 2 weeks for a 5000 mile trip this winter. Did we pay a lot of money? YES! Do we have peace of mind? YES!

If they were Good Year, they have always paid for me, any damage to my rig as a result of any tire blow out.

Don't know what the brand was. One of our "tire" experts (family friend) tried to read the brand on it. I am sure they were China Bombs of some sort.

gmajs, is appears from what you posted that your trailer came with ST235/80R16C rated tires, which I am not sure exist. There are ST235/80R16 D(8ply rating) and E(10ply rating) rated tires commonly installed. Also the Michelin XPS Ribs are LT235/85R16E tires rated to 3042 pounds each not ST tires.So 6x3042 gives you a 18252 capacity on the three axles, which is great, and you most likely will be able to run them trouble free for 7 or 8 years, if they were fresh when you bought them. So excellent choice.Chris

Are the axles on that toyhauler 6,000 lb. axles or 7,000 lb. axles? Just curious as my Fuzion came with 3 7,000 lb. rated axles. What size tires did it specify on the placard?

have you weighed each axle independently? That would tell you a lot about loading.

The first blow out was construction debris on I95 in Georgia. The second blow out was on the other side tires had been checked that morning in GA in January. The blow out was in Knoxville and the 3rd blow out was in Columbus Ohio coming home from the RV repair shop who had just recaulked all of the windows. Repair on that back panel is less then $100.

It was never overloaded especially on the 3rd blow out. Even though it is a toy hauler we do not carry a golf cart or anything in the back, it is an office with the washer dryer and some lawn furniture.
Can't find the rating on the axles it isn't on the ID card.
As far as the warranty being voided, if that were to come down to that my dealer will be taking care of things from his own business if we were to have any issues. That is on him if he voided the warranty. I do not foresee that there will be any issues.
TPMS is next on the agenda.
Oh and I stand corrected the XPS Ribs are LT tires not ST!

I would suggest weighing the rig, it sounds like the rear axle is seeing a lot more load than the other 2. maybe the tow attitude is nose high or you need to move some gear aound in the garage.

IMHO you did the right thing by going with Michelin all the way.

Because all the blowouts were on the rear axle, it could well be that that axle is overloaded. Have you weighed the unit by each axle?? You spent a fair amount of money on tires, now its time to consider a TPMS. Its way cheaper than trying to repair the damage caused by a blown tire. JMO

I think the dealer did you a dis-service and let you void your warranty!!!

From Michelin's warranty: "Tires which become unserviceable due to alterations such as, but not limited to, truing,addition of balancing or sealant liquids or the use of tire dressings containing petroleum distillates, are excluded from warranty coverage."
