On another site that I frequent, this subject has become a LONG topic with lots of opinions. I tried searching here but nothing came up.I will flash my bright lights for a trucker or another RV to let them know that it is OK for them to move over. I've had truckers do it for me many times. I don't drive at night so maybe flashing brights would not work well (blinding), turning your headlights off for a second is probably appropriate.(daytime driving) Some of the 'driver's' say it's a faux-pas to flash the brights. I would agree but I see truckers do it all the time for each other.When a truck has just past me, I can see the driver in his side mirror. The moment he turns his head, that's when I will flash my brights for him to move over. I flash...and most often the trucker flashes me back with his tail and running lights....

I will turn off then quickly back on my headlights; that lets them know its ok to merge over.

I use my fog lights. I noticed the previous responders that say they get an acknowledgement are not from the east coast. The further east I got, the fewer truckers flashed me back. It' doesn't stop me from doing it, it's just a comment on the differences in certain regions of the country.I have never been flashed in when passing a truck regardless of what part of the country I'm in.

X2. I've noticed that most tanker drivers don't usually flash a "TY", but just about every other driver will acknowledge your help.

If the traffic is heavy around me and the truck I'm passing, they will sometimes flash me in after I'm clear of them.
Most seem to want to help, because if you mess up, they'll probably be caught in the aftermath, and they don't need the hassle or delay. I also see them yield the active lane to me when I'm merging into traffic from an interchange. Once I'm in, and they're past me, I will flash them to let them know they can move back to the right lane if they want. And as a TY.

I will usually flash the lights when the trucker puts on his/her turn signal. If they are something like 5 truck lengths in front when they put on their signal, I don't bother to flash.

I flash. Daytime driving its not like the bright lights are blinding, at night I wouldn't. I get an acknowledgement most times also because usually the impatient drivers behind the truck always try to pass the truck on the right and the sooner the trucker knows its safe to get over the better.
