- dedmistonModeratorI had a tote for years and it seemed like I used it more when we were rookies. But when we needed it, we REALLY needed it.
It was a disgusting hassle though. I'm not squeamish at all about dumping the tanks, but that tote was miserable. I remember having to take a Silkwood shower every time I used it, which kind of defeats the purpose of the tote.
I think we got rid of the tote after about five years of RVing and I've never missed it. - ZINGERLITEExplorer

I used to have a tote. After I bought it I realized that where we normally camp the nearest dump station is likely to be 10 (or more) miles away. Most Forest Service campgrounds in this state have no dump stations, and dumping RV tanks into a vault toilet is against the rules.
The tote sat under the workbench in the shop for about 15 years, then I sold it for less than $20 in a garage sale.
Think about it before buying one. Will you have a place to dump it at the remote campground you like?
Similar situation. I used it a couple of times where we camped in the same spot more than a few days. Since then we've developed better water conservation habits and only stay in the same place about 3 or 4 days at a time. Which is perfect timing for our tank capacity. Now i have this tote thats always in the way lol. - mowermechExplorerI used to have a tote. $20 a week = $80 a month = $400.00 for 5 months.
You can buy a 42 gallon Barker Tote for $350.00 or so.
If you do a lot of state park camping. A portable tote is a good weapon to have in your arsenal. - Dave_H_MExplorer III have gone a month without dumping by very judicious use of the black tank. :h
- mr_andyjExplorerWhere are you? I have two new ones to get rid of.
Everyone is freely spending your money. $20 once is not a big deal, but $20/week for months on end is.
Yes, get a Blueboy and dump the black for free. Don't let gray water go in since you can drain that for free at your site. Hold the gray until the black is unhooked and then drain the gray. Sounds like you need two waste spigots...
You will get in the habit of dumping and it is not a big deal, just a chore to add to the honeydo list. - Dutch_12078Explorer IIWe stick mainly to state and national parks, most without sewer hookups. Our four wheel 27 gallon Thetford portable waste tank gets a workout, but I don't mind using it to empty both tanks since it makes our stays more enjoyable. The longest dump run I've made so far is about 1.75 miles.
- Michelle_SExplorer IIIA 15 or 20 Gal Blue Boy gets really heavy in a hurry, so you could end up using it every few days, depending on usage.
I think I would pay the $20 once a week vs multiple trips per week with the Blue Boy. - blaczeroExplorerThis site is grey hookups but black pump, so I'd be portable dumping black.
- dodge_guyExplorer IIPortable tanks are great, but I would never use it for the black tank, grey definitely.
