Toad advise

I'm planning to tow a Jeep wrangler and have located a used Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000 with a Brakebuddy Classic braking system. This is all new to me and I am looking for advise or opinions.

  • the Stowmaster towbar is very nice, with 6000 lb. capacity. I have one on the truck so I can tow it behind the Southwind.
When I had a Jeep wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, I used a $145 Reese fixed arm adjustable width towbar. It did exactly the same job as the Stowmaster, but the rated capacity was only 5000 lbs. I didn't figure that was enough for the Dodge 1500.
IMO, you should forget about the brake buddy or any other electronic braking system. Instead, go for the ReadyBrake mechanical system. It will work with any towbar, and it just simply works.
No, I don't sell them, nor do I install them, I just believe it is the best bang for the buck you can buy!
  • What will you be towing it with? I have a Brake Buddy, be careful they can malfunction and wear the brakes out. I have a classic, they do not operate below 30mph. Not much help down hill in the mountains. The tow bar seems ok for your use.
