the Stowmaster towbar is very nice, with 6000 lb. capacity. I have one on the truck so I can tow it behind the Southwind.
When I had a Jeep wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, I used a $145 Reese fixed arm adjustable width towbar. It did exactly the same job as the Stowmaster, but the rated capacity was only 5000 lbs. I didn't figure that was enough for the Dodge 1500.
IMO, you should forget about the brake buddy or any other electronic braking system. Instead, go for the ReadyBrake mechanical system. It will work with any towbar, and it just simply works.
